A Family Tradition
For generations, the Cozzolino and Giordano families have passed down their passion for agriculture, with a specialization in viticulture. The winery was founded in Sant’Anastasia, at the foot of Mount Somma, within the Vesuvius National Park, on the north-western slope of the volcanic complex.
A parchment dated May 1963 attests to our presence at a wine exhibition, with Catalanesca already taking center stage.
Vineyard
We cultivate 20 hectares, 15 of which are planted with vines, scattered like a patchwork across the slopes of Mount Somma, in the areas of Pollena Trocchia, Sant’Anastasia, and Somma Vesuviana. Our vineyards lie on the oldest side of Vesuvius, stretching from 300 to 650 meters above sea level.
Wines
Our vineyards rise in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park, on the north-western slope. Rooted in ancient volcanic soil, they overlook the Gulf of Naples and benefit from the constant sea breeze.
From the opposite slope, one can admire the mountain ranges of the southern Apennines: this unique position lends the wines remarkable freshness and longevity.
We cultivate exclusively the native grapes of the volcano: Catalanesca, Caprettone, and Piedirosso, which give our wines a distinctive volcanic character.
Experiences
Discovering Cantine Olivella and its passion for wine.
A visit to the winery is a journey through past and present. The oldest part of the estate, dating back to the 1800s, was once an old farmhouse where wine was produced. The restoration, faithful to its origins, has returned to the building the elegance and grandeur envisioned by its founders.
The newly designed section was conceived in harmony with the original style of the farmhouse. By combining tradition with modern technologies, we pursue a constant goal: environmental sustainability and the protection of the land.
The tour begins among the vineyards, continues to the entrance of the production area, and offers a view of the underground cellar where the wines age. It then leads to the barrel room and, ascending the scenic spiral staircase, returns to the present in the tasting room. Here, visitors can savor the most representative wines of Vesuvio DOP and Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGP.
